August 18, 2024 - Alaska Trip
Sheep Mountain Lodge

We left Wasilla and got on Highway One headed northeast to Sheep Mountain.  It's about an hour drive.  This of course is the route I flew in on from Tok.  I passed through Sheep Mountain pass, one of the most scenic parts of the entire Maryland - Alaska route.  We would be staying overnight at Sheep Mountain Lodge.

Here we are looking down at lodge parking lot from one of the cabins.

The entire family was on hand except for Beau.  Here William and Teddy are practicing their Kung Fu while Parker looks on.

The view looking north from the back of the Lodge.

The family heads out on an afternoon hike.

Alaska can be very pretty.

At first Parker kept up with the family.

But she quickly tired.

Soon Parker scores a ride from William.  Parker's rep on hiking ain't the best.

Griffin has taken over Parker duties.

Now looking south.

Very nice.

Sheep Mountain Lodge has their own gravel airstrip.

Looking south.

The eastern end of the airstrip.

Looking west down the runway.  Not what I'm used to in the lower 48 but certainly servicable.

Wildflowers along the gravel airstrip.

An Alaskan plane!

A Helicopter flightseeing outfit operated at the lodge, to take people over to nearby Matanuska Glacier.

An albino moose!

Lucy and Don's cabin.

Resting after the arduous hike,

ZZZ

There goes the helicopter, heading for the glacier.

The family ready to go hiking.

Lynnette and I stayed in this little cabin.

The view from the Lodge parking lot.

Parker loves her big cousins.

Lynnette at our cabin.

Lynnette at the Lodge restaurant, which was very good.

The inside of our little cabin.

Helicopter landing pad and base.

We enjoyed our stay at the Sheep Mountain Lodge.  Recommended.
